DRIVE, DETERMINATION, AMBITION. These are just a few of the words people use to describe me. Others would describe me as PASSIONATE, COURAGEOUS, and GRATEFUL. My son simply calls me MOM, and that, in and of itself, is the best description that anyone could have for me. That one word is enough to let every new client know what to expect when I represent them – CARING, DEPENDABLE, AND POSITIVE.
These descriptions are just not idle platitudes, I have spent the majority of my life doing what people said couldn’t be done. My journey to the practice of law was not paved smooth with gold; but rather lined with mountainous obstacles. Many thought these obstacles could not be overcome, but time and time again, I rose from the ashes emerging stronger and more determined than ever.
After graduating law school and being admitted to practice law in the state of West Virginia and the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia, I began working for a multi-state litigation law firm with offices in Charleston, WV, Huntington, WV, Buffalo, New York, and Columbus and Toledo, Ohio. While employed there, I represented and worked with numerous people who were involved in car wrecks along with their insurance companies, handled civil rights cases stemming from claims of excessive force, prison sexual assaults, prisoner suicide/death cases, conditions of confinement cases and various employment cases for various state agencies and non-profit organizations.
During my employment with the multi-state law firm, I work with my now law partner, M. Andrew Brison. Andy is fond of saying that you can teach a lawyer how to try a case, but you can’t teach someone to be a litigator. Early on, he, without hesitation, identified me as a litigator—affirming what I already hoped and believed to be true. While working together, we enjoyed a very successful track record in the representation of our clients. We then decided to put our talents and our commitment to success together to create a dynamic, client focused partnership.
My life and work experiences thus far have provided me with the compassion, resiliency, and accountability required to help each individual client with their litigation needs. I have the ability to relate to my clients that are braving through their own tough times and the drive to work their cases toward a successful resolution, overcoming each obstacle that arises. My client’s legal challenges are my legal challenges, and I will never back down from a challenge. Let me fight for you, and help you, too, to rise once again.
